Since its inception in 1951 as the First International Conference on Patristic Studies, organised by Frank Leslie Cross (1900-1968), Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity in the University of Oxford, this four-yearly gathering of scholars from around the world has
become a major event for the many disciplines concerned with Patristics. It gives scholars at all stages of their careers the opportunity
to enagage with a critical, but sympathetic audience.
In addition, the conference and its 500+ individual contributions indicate the movement of research in the field as a whole.
Famous names, addresses, lectures, seminars and topics discussed have marked the history of research in Patristics.
The XVIth Conference will highlight this past by a lecture series to remember former Directors of the Conference and their impact
on Patristic Studies.
